A Daily Collection of Garbage Washed Ashore on New York's Southampton Beach

San Juan, La Union, Philippines
The surf instructors in the surf town of San Juan formed an NGO, Green Zinc, that sponsors beach cleanups every Friday and helps other communities with beach cleanups!
When I am out in Southampton, every morning I take a walk on the beach. Last year, I started picking up trash, and this year I am posting these photos in order to share them with you.
Picking up trash has been enlightening and gratifying. I am heartened by President Obama's call for volunteerism and I hope to inspire others to clean up their beaches and neighborhoods.
Thank you for visiting the site. Many of you have told me about your own cleanup experiences. Please take a picture and send it to sweptashore@hotmail.com. I will gladly post it on the blog! Please include location and any other information you would like to provide about your picture.
Or send news and events and we will post those as well!
Special Thanks
Thank you to Kevin Byrne, who separates the beach trash that we pick up and recycles the plastics and other items.
The town of Southampton has an extensive recycling and trash pickup program. You can learn more about it by copying and pasting this into your web browser: http://www.town.southampton.ny.us/listing.ihtml?cat=Public%20Works&id=79.
